Case 7
Neurological Findings

Gait disturbance with paresis (strength 3/5) and hypoesthesia of the lower limbs bilaterally (7 days after onset).

Visual acuity was 4/10 and 7/10 in the right and left eye, respectively. These values were unchanged by refraction.

Visual field was normal; eye movements, color vision and pupillary reactions were also normal. Color vision was normal in both eyes when tested with Ishihara plates, although a mild defect might not have been detected with this test.
Ophthalmoscopic examination showed bilateral temporal pallor of the optic discs with reduction of the retinal nerve fiber layer more pronounced in the papillomacular bundle. No telangiectasias were found around the disc in either eye.

Visual evoked potentials delayed response bilaterally with a normal amplitude.
